Chris Kelly has been building beautiful steel frames in Northern California since the mid 1980s. His frames have been ridden to victory in national and international races, including the World Championships. This one is a gorgeous example, from the period between 1995 and 2003, when Kelly was still in Oakland. It’s got a sweet modern build, and it has an awesome ride. Responsive and very balanced, it handles and carves corners well, and is actually comfortable to ride — the lugged steel fork probably has something to do with that. And the OX Platinum tubing gives that magical combination of being very strong while also somehow very light. And the paint is in great shape for its age — it’s a vintage bike and there are certainly some signs of use, but the bike overall looks fantastic, and Kelly’s in-house painting is known for being top shelf. This baby has been built to ride hard, all day long. Sweet modern build includes a Shimano Ultegra 22-speed drivetrain, Thomson seatpost, Chris King headset, 3T stem and handlebars, Brooks Cambium C15 saddle, and H + Son/Ultegra wheels.
